sonicshambles: (Yule Palm)
For someone who wasn't sure if doing Yuletide was a good idea since it's been a few years since I participated I'm so happy I did. I received four amazing gifts that I absolutely love. I also wrote four fics that I'm happy with and have recieved nice comments from their reciepents as well as some nice attention from the YT reading community. I'll post those here after author reveals but wanted to brag about my gifts to anyone who might stumble across this journal.

In the order they appear on my Gifts page:

Where the Heart Is (100 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Jane of Lantern Hill - L.M. Montgomery
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Jane Stuart
Additional Tags: Drabble, yumadrin, Futurefic

Nothing can keep her away forever.

This is a lovely drabble that in 100 words manages to capture Jane's love and attachtment to PEI and Lantern Hill. It's the difference between where you currently reside and where you consider home. I feel like Jane of Lantern Hill is often Montgomery's forgotten work but it's been my favorite since I read it and I'm so happy there are other fans of it as well.

Unravelled (1164 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Thick of It (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Malcolm Tucker

There's something about being speechless while every plan he ever had unravels before his eyes that reminds him of his ex-wife.

This is exactly why by the end of Series 4 Malcolm had my full sympathy. He was a man no worse than just about everyone he worked with but got an ending far worse than any of theirs. I LOVE the backstory this fic gave him and how it filled in those cryptic blanks the show threw our away about Malcolm's home life. It's a little bit more hopeful than what the series gave us without shying away from who Malcolm is and what sort of world he lives in.

Happy Christmas (1212 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Thick of It (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Sam Cassidy/Malcolm Tucker
Characters: Malcolm Tucker, Sam Cassidy, Jamie MacDonald

Malcolm has the perfect gift for Sam this Christmas.

This was my very TTOI Yuletide and I have no complaints. :) Everything about this is so sweet and left such a huge smile on my face and Malcolm and Jamie were still so perfectly Malcolm and Jamie. For as little screentime as it got Sam and Malcolm's working relationship made me so happy and I love the idea of there being more to that relationship. I love that in this story they got together at Sam's insistence and that Malcolm found such a beautiful way to show her how much he cared.

The Skylark's Song (2624 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Colin Craven/Mary Lennox/Dickon Sowerby
Characters: Mary Lennox, Martha Sowerby, Dickon Sowerby, Colin Craven
Additional Tags: World War I

In hope of magic at the end of a long war.

It's not always a good thing when a present makes you cry but this made me cry in the best way. It was melancholy but so full of love and hope and for those reasons and many others felt like a perfect continuation of the book. The role each character ends up playing in the war fits them and the way the magic of their bond and the garden still flows through them isn't even something I have the words to describe so I'm glad someone wrote such a wonderful story regarding it.

Now that I'm done with all of the family obligations this holiday season I'm looking forward to reading everything else of interest to me in the archive.
